Whew.”
Alexa knows she’s busted and Martina’s right. The tension was thicker than the London fog.
“Is Brett attractive? I didn’t notice.”
“Oh yeah, but you know I have a weakness for those Scottish accents. It’s so Braveheart .” Martina giggles.
“Yes, his accent is nice. I’m going to dinner with him tomorrow night.”
“Ooh, really? I’m so jealous. No shock though, you’re gorgeous.”
“Thanks. It’s just a business dinner though.”
“Sure. Just the two of you then?”
    Alexa flushes again. “Yes.”
“And what of our dear chap, Scotty?”
    “Dinner with him tonight.”
“Whoa, you got ‘em coming out of the woodwork, don’t you? Out of the two of them, I would have hard time deciding who’s yummier. Scott is so edgy and commanding but Brett is handsome and charming. They’re both so different.”
    You could say that again.
“Again, dinner with Brett is business. Dinner with Scotty is… closure.”
“Closure? The way he was looking at you didn’t look like he planned to end things. After the last time he was here, it seems there is still a bit of unfinished business between you.”
“I don’t care what he plans to do. I know what I want, and I want to be friends, colleagues, and nothing else.”
“You sure about that? You had a look too, just saying.”
Alexa feels her guard climbing back up. As much as she could use a girlfriend to talk this through with, she isn’t ready to explore her feelings for Scott. Not yet.
“Listen,” Alexa switches gears, “I need you to get the files ready for the Capital Associates. They’ll be here tomorrow to talk about their social media launch. Hold all my calls for the next two hours. I have a lot of work to catch up on.”
Martina knows the signal that they are done girl talking and resumes her professional duties. “Of course. I’ll bring your coffee?”
“Yes, please.” Sometimes Alexa thought Martina might know her better than she knows herself. “Martina?”
    “Yes, boss?”
“Thank you.” Alexa hopes Martina knows that she means for everything.
    “No problem, boss.”

Scott walks to the elevators with Brett and as they ride down, his thoughts focus only on Alexa. He can’t get over the look of hurt and anger in her eyes, yet he can tell there was still something in her that let him get close to her. He just wished he knew how to tell her what he was feeling and not just bully her into spending time with him.
He looks over at his friend and colleague, and knows Brett is interested in pursuing Alexa. Scott was going to do everything in his power to make sure Brett didn’t get close to his girl. Like it or not, Alexa belongs to Scott. He just has to figure out how to convince her.

Alexa looked down at the watch on her wrist, ten to five. She needed to ring for Oswald so she had enough time to prepare for her evening with Scott.
Today’s little scene in her office only assures her she is far from over Scott Patrick. She shakes her head slowly. All the strength she worked so hard to achieve went straight out the window the minute he walked in the room. Five minutes in his presence reduced her to the twenty-three year old virgin she was when she met him. She remembers the day she laid eyes on him like it was yesterday.

“Miss Drake? Mr. Patrick will see you now,” the receptionist says. My nerves are on fire. I’m interviewing with THE Scott Patrick, the 31-year old hotshot media guru currently controlling most of New York. I just hope I have what it takes to impress him. Rumor has it his last three assistants quit in less than a year, worn down from the pressure of working for such a demanding man. I walk slowly behind the frumpy woman, noticing how she doesn’t quite fit into the sleek, modern surroundings. She opens a large glass door and gestures for me to enter. I take a deep breath and step in.
Scott Patrick is standing, looking out over the city, a phone held to his ear. He speaks softly at
