a quick kiss on Ramonaâs full lips. His rugged, dark good looks held Audraâs attention.
âThat depends.â Ramona gave the man a flirtatious glance. âAre you going to Los Angeles?â
âNo, temptress, Iâm going to Philadelphia.â
âThen so am I.â The love shining in Ramonaâs ebony eyes made her even more beautiful.
âKnock it off. Iâm about to eat breakfast.â A querulous voice interrupted the loversâ exchange.
Audra turned to find another tall man on the bar stool beside her. His long, lean figure sprawled elegantly on the seat. The humor in his midnight eyes belied the scowl on his model good looks. Whereas the first man looked like a professional football running back, this one reminded her of a wide receiver.
Audra glanced around at the tables, filling up behind her. She hadnât imagined the café at Books & Bakery would attract so many people. She waited for her discomfort of crowds to return. It didnât.
Ramona gestured toward the handsome man beside her. âPenny Lane, this is Dr. Quincy Spates. Heâs the new professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania.â
Quincy shook her hand. âWelcome to Trinity Falls.â
Ramona continued. âAnd the degenerate behind you is Darius Knight. Heâs lucky to be gainfully employed as a reporter with The Trinity Falls Monitor. â
âPenny Lane, huh?â Dariusâs eyes were curious as he offered Audra his hand. âI was surprised to hear Harmony Cabins had a guest. What brings you to Trinity Falls?â
Audra shook the reporterâs hand. âIâm here on vacation.â
Darius cocked his head and released her hand. âI hadnât realized anyone outside of Trinity Falls knew the cabins existed.â
A tall, slender woman in a royal blue skirt suit entered the café. Her confident strides carried her behind the counter. âI didnât know Jack had any cabins that were fully renovated.â She offered Audra her right hand. âWelcome to Trinity Falls. Iâm Megan McCloud.â
Audra returned her greeting, trying to remember everyoneâs name. Apparently, Jack was the only antisocial person in town, the taciturn hermit in the enchanted forest.
On Audraâs right, Ramona sipped her coffee. âMegan owns Books and Bakery.â
Audraâs eyes widened. âItâs a wonderful bookstore. I can understand why itâs so popular.â
Megan grinned. âThank you. What do you do?â
Audra tensed. âIâm a musician.â
Darius leaned forward. âWhat instrument do you play?â
Ramona lowered her coffee mug. âYou should talk with Vaughn Brooks. Heâs Trinity Falls Universityâs band director.â
Doreen reappeared with Audraâs breakfast. âI doubt Penny wants to talk shop on her vacation.â
Audra sighed with reliefâfor both the food and the interruption. She hated lying to these nice people.
Megan crossed her arms. âThe books Jack ordered came in. Would you mind taking them to him when you return to the rental cabins?â
âNo, not at all.â Audra sipped her coffee.
Megan nodded. âThank you.â
Doreen topped off Audraâs coffee. âHow long will you be with us?â
âAbout a month.â Audra bit into the wheat toast. The bread tasted homemade. âDelicious.â
Doreen flushed with pleasure.
âA month?â Ramonaâs eyebrows rose. âThatâs some vacation.â
âRamona, are you prying into someone elseâs personal life?â Another tall, dark, and handsome stranger materialized.
Ramona gasped. âHardly. Thatâs Dariusâs job.â
The new arrival walked to the counter and leaned forward. Megan met him halfway. They exchanged a quick kiss over the salt-and-pepper shakers, sugar packets, and napkin holders.
He then stepped behind the counter to kiss
