coming to the conclusion that she was better off doing it by herself.
She wasn’t sure that she needed his input.
    Not now, not ever.

Out at sea, a storm was whipping itself around the bay, thrashing the cozy town with its warm yellow and orange lights.
As they all slept and Rebecca tossed and turned in the grips of a deep, but unsettled sleep, Jet was far from the town and far from sleep.
In the dim distance, Whitby glistened and the Abbey hung darkly against the moon. But the overriding sound was that of the wind, rattling around the moors and hitting him with the full force of its freezing venom.
Although none of this really concerned him, in his lupine state. The hair was more than enough to keep him warm. He hadn’t really wanted to shift that night, all the same, but sometimes when a crisis like this happened, especially close to a full moon it chose him and when the discomfort and pain were done, he actually found that it helped him to think.
In his heightened state, he paced around, feeling the contours of the moorland and every blast of wind and bucket of hail that came with it. There was no one around tonight, not surprisingly. Not even any other shifters.
Just as well, as this could absolutely not be discussed with the other members of his clan. Jet knew that much.
So here he was, despite his money, his power, his success, mooching around the moors, on a desperately cold and wet night, forced by the moon into this temporary state, having to hide up here, until the night passed and unable to do anything about his situation until tomorrow.
He howled painfully. If it was one thing he couldn’t stand it was not being in control of a situation.
He had no idea how this could have happened, they had been careful. But one thing was for sure, even if there was the slightest possibility that the child was his, it would have to be removed.
Still, he felt sure that a woman like Rebecca would not want to be lumbered with a kid. She had her career.
Here Jet howled again. How could he not have seen that one coming? He had allowed pure animal lust to blind him to the fact that this woman actually worked towards the destruction of his kind.
There was only one outcome allowed in his circle. If he got a girl pregnant he had to marry her. There were no exceptions. If not, they would both be hunted down by the clan and killed.
Still, Jet considered himself a fair man. She would get one chance to make the right decision.

“But is is is there any evidence that these marker techniques that are being piloted will actually work?” Asked a shiny young man, with an abject perspiration problem.
“Well, the study is in its infancy but the results seem promising” Rebecca answered, glancing down to her notes. They were in the conference suite of the same hotel that she had first met Jet in. The whole situation was just so absurd, she just couldn’t get it out of her head.
“And erm wh wh what of the ethics of the situation—I mean, is this kind of tracking against people’s human r-r-rights.”
    Hear bloody hear.
The voice made Rebecca jump out of her skin, but no one else seemed to hear it. She couldn’t see anyone who might have just spoken, so carried on hastily.
“Well, erm, that is a good question, although not really one that should be our principle concern. However, as we know, the statistics of the government crime agencies are unilateral. Wherever there are shifters there is a crime, the murder rates spike and while not in every case it can be proved, it would seem..”
“B... but” Struggled the young man, trying to spit his words out. Rebecca listened kindly; her younger brother had had a terrible stammer for many years.
“D…do you not think that maybe the authorities are being a bit hasty with these policies to track and er..er.adicate”
“Contain Shaun; no one is talking about eradication.”
“We—well maybe not officially, b... but we have to realize that there are forces at work out
