slightly curled from being damp and she was so focused on the screen. He had watched the woman who sat on the couch grow up. She was always so sweet and compassionate about everyone and everything. He thought back to a time when she came into his room crying she was utterly heartbroken over some teenage boy who didn’t know what he had while he was dating her. He relentlessly broke up with her to be with her former best friend. Sabin remembered how he held her in his arms and stroked her hair until they both fell asleep. He woke up later that night to her snoring. It was so quiet and soft. It had been so adorable. The memory made him smile as he joined her on the sofa and she coldly got up to leave. A painful confusion from the move had left an ache in Sabin. He knew that she struggled with what they were doing, but didn’t understand her moodiness.
"Lette, why are you acting this way? You make love to me then you ignore me. Why?" The look on Sabin's face was genuinely confused
"This is wrong Sabin." Collette said feeling vulnerable.
"How can it be wrong to love another person this much?" Sabin asked with tears in his eyes. Colette's heart stopped.
"You love me?" She asked sitting back down.
"I've always loved you, but it's different now. I want you to experience all of the things that Michael deprived you of. I want to make it up to you." Sabin said holding her. "Who cares if no one else understands?"
“I love you too Sabin." He leaned in to kiss her. His thumb resting on the scar that he as a little boy had given her. He grimaced. "What is it?" She said worried that the scar had been unattractive to him.
"Do you know why I hated you so much?" Sabin said with saddened eyes.
"No. Why did you?" Colette asked looking into his hurt eyes. The question had always bothered her. She had never done anything to make him hate her. She was always cautious around him, sure to be kind and gentle.
"Because you were the only girl more beautiful than my mother. I thought that God had to take her so that you could live. Like the world wasn't allowed to have that much beauty in it at once." Tears fell down Colette's face from the beautiful sentiment. She had never known why Sabin had been as hateful to her as a child, and knowing why was a huge relief.
She leaned in and kissed him again. He could feel her smiling through his lips as he held her tightly. The woman in his arms had meant so much to him. Their love was formed by God, and God didn't make mistakes. He picked Colette up into his arms and carried her to the room where they talked and laughed. She fell asleep in his arms hours later and he looked at her while she slept. The light had returned to her beautiful eyes. She was living again instead of just surviving. Sabin kissed her on the head before falling asleep himself, he whispered.
    "I love you."
Sabin woke up to Colette crying softly. He put his large hand on her to comfort her. She turned to him and buried her face in his arms. The tears rolled down his muscular arm and onto the mattress. Sabin’s heart broke with each and every tear that rolled down her face.
“What’s wrong my love?” He asked as he stroked her hair.
“Why did my marriage fall apart?” Colette was breaking down, finally feeling what she was entitled to.
“Because, sometimes, you only need someone in your life for a short time. Sometimes people change. The world is unfair Lette. You both grew, you just grew apart.” Sabin said as Colette rolled over in his arms. He wiped tears from her eyes and smiled at her. “It just wasn’t meant to be.” He kissed her forehead.
“Are we meant to be together?” Colette asked.
“Look at all of the random coincidences that brought us together. No matter what, we’ll always be a part of each other’s life. We’re permanent.” Sabin held her tightly and the tears stopped falling from her beautiful eyes.
Colette silently fell asleep in Sabin’s arms. Soon after that
