getting worried, guys,â he said.
âWe all are,â Frank said.
âIâll go call Iola,â Joe said.
âLetâs drive over there,â Chet suggested. âNo reason to spook my folks if there isnât something to worry about.â
Tony got up and began to clear the table. âWhy donât you guys check to see if they left any messages. Iâll clean up here.â
âDo you want some help?â Joe asked.
âI got it,â Tony said. âJust give me a call at home later to let me know the girls are okay.â
Frank, Chet, and Joe left the pizza place. The three friends got in the van, each with a worried expression on his face.
âLetâs drive over to Chetâs house,â Frank said. He got in the driverâs seat. After everyone buckled his seat belt Frank put the car in gear. The silent drive to Chetâs house seemed to take forever.
It was ten-thirty when the van pulled up in front of the Morton home.
âCallieâs car isnât here,â Frank said.
They walked up to the front door. Chet got out his key, but the door was unlocked.
When they entered the house, they saw that the light in the living room was lit.
âIola?â Chet called as they headed toward the light.
âYou mean sheâs not with you?â answered Chetâs father as the boys entered the room. Mr. Morton, a large man who looked like an older version of his son, sat on a couch with his wife, a dead ringer for her daughter.
âNope,â Chet shook his head.
A worried look crossed Mrs. Mortonâs face.
âThen where can she be?â
3 Girls in Trouble
----
Mrs. Mortonâs words hung in the air. Joe Hardy looked around the room. Everywhere he turned, he stared into a worried face.
âIt certainly isnât like Iola to go off without telling somebody where sheâs going,â Mr. Morton said.
âShe was supposed to meet us at Pizza Palace after the television show,â Frank said.
âDid something happen to change those plans?â Mr. Morton asked.
âWell, Sis and Callie did end up being guests on the show,â Chet said. âMaybe theyâre hanging out with some of the people from Monty Mania.â
Chetâs parents both gave their son quizzical looks. Chet began to fill them in on the details, drawing on the story that Frank and Joe had related to him earlier that evening.
Meanwhile, Frank had gone into the kitchen to use the phone. First he called his own house to see if the missing girls had left any word there. Then, after that phone call came up empty, he tried Callieâs house. Nobody answered.
âNobodyâs home at the Shawsâ,â Frank said when he returned to the living room.
Just then they heard a key in the front door. Everyone raced to the entryway.
âIola!â Mr. Morton shouted as his daughter entered the house. âAre you all right?â Mrs. Morton gave her daughter a hug.
âWhere have you been?â she asked.
Iola seemed taken aback by all of the attention.
âOh, just around.â
âWhere did you and Callie go after Monty Mania?â Frank asked. âWhereâs Callie?â
âShe dropped me off and headed for home,â Iola answered.
âWhy didnât you meet us at the pizza place?â Joe asked. He crowded past Chet to put a reassuring hand on Iolaâs shoulder.
âUh, no reason,â Iola replied.
âWere you angry for what happened at the taping?â Joe asked.
âOr embarrassed?â Chet added.
âNot really,â Iola responded. âWell, a little embarrassed, I guess.â
âSo what happened?â
âWell, Callie and I went backstage to sign the papers. Then Monty came back to talk to us. And then Callie and I just decided to go to the park.â
âThe park?â Joe sounded incredulous.
âYeah, itâs the weirdest thing. Callie and I got in the car, and we
