into a smile. “You may call me Ms Mackenzie,” she said, draping an arm around Stephanie's shoulders.
Stephanie could see the cogs turning in Linda's head. “Mackenzie... Mackenzie.. that sounds familiar...” she muttered. There was almost an audible click when the light-bulb went on in her head. “Oh my god, Stephanie, you're a dyke!” Linda exclaimed. “Oh my god, the guys at the office are going to love this!”
Stephanie's jaw dropped open in shock. She looked up at Mackenzie, expecting anger, but Mackenzie's features had settled into a composed quiet amusement.
“Linda,” she purred. “Walk with me a moment.”
“Uh, okay,” Linda agreed. She was too curious not to agree, Stephanie knew that as she watched Mackenzie walk a few feet away from the car with Linda in tow. Linda was a fairly imposing woman, all curves and red lips, but next to Mackenzie, she looked like a short little troll in Stephanie's eyes. She couldn't hear what they were saying, but the body language said it all. Mackenzie leaned down and said something to Linda, who turned pale and took a step back, shaking her head furiously. A moment later, it was over, Linda practically fled back into the building on her short stubby high heels and Mackenzie sauntered back over to Stephanie with what Stephanie could only describe as a wicked grin on her features.
“What did you say?” Stephanie asked.
“Let's just say I reminded Linda of the possible consequences of her actions,” Mackenzie replied. She opened the passenger door for Stephanie, who slid in, wishing she had that sort of power for repelling jerks.

Stephanie looked shaken as she sat in the passenger seat and Mackenzie couldn't help but to lean over and kiss her cheek. “Cheer up, little one, she won't bother you anymore.”
With a grateful smile, Stephanie nodded. “Thanks. She's a jerk.”
“And part of the reason why your attendance has been so poor lately?” Mackenzie asked as she headed the car onto the road.
“ I don't know,” Stephanie shrugged.
“Hm,” Mackenzie replied. “What's your address? I'll drop you home.”
“Thanks, that's kind of you,” Stephanie agreed, though her smile faded somewhat at the news she was going home.
The drive was a decently long one, but it was conducted in a tension filled silence only interrupted by Stephanie shifting on her bottom, which obviously still ached a little. The mere announcement about going home had shifted the mood completely, a fact Mackenzie found mildly amusing for the fact that she had intended to take Stephanie out for dinner afterward and then, well, then see where the evening took them. It seemed that Stephanie had other ideas however. Her brows were drawn together in a frown and she was unconsciously pouting up a storm.
By the time they drew up to her pleasant little cottage home, Stephanie looked about ready to explode. So the brat had a little temper issue too, did she?
“Thanks,” she said shortly, getting out of the car and slamming the door. Mackenzie waited for a moment for the pleasure of watching Stephanie stomp her round little ass up towards her front door before opening her car door and stepping out onto the gravel.
“Stephanie.”
Stephanie turned around, her expression still clouded with anger. “What?”
“Is there any reason you're behaving like a little girl?”
Stephanie had the good grace to look taken aback for a moment. She sighed. “Look, thanks for the ride Mackenzie, and for letting me stay last night. You can go now.”
Mackenzie frowned slightly. “Are you dismissing me?”
“Um, no... I just thought...” again she trailed off, apparently unable, or unwilling to finish the sentence.
She didn't need to. Mackenzie knew exactly what she'd just thought. She'd thought that Mackenzie was like other women she'd known in the past. She thought that Mackenzie had gotten what
