the lover in the train car seeped into my mind. His hands were so similar and I bit my bottom lip and leaned over to pick up the books I had dropped onto the floor.
“Oh shit, what time is it?” he asked me, as I collected my dirty books once again.
I looked at my watch and then spoke as he stood up and started to walk away from me. I mean did he or did he not want to know?
“2:30,” I called out to him and he stopped and walked back to me. He leaned up on the table as I looked down. He reached over and I could smell him, a sweet blend of vanilla and sandalwood filled my nostrils. He grabbed his phone, which I did not even notice was sitting off to the side on the table. I cleared my throat and he stood up straight, taking his incredible smell with him.
“Thank you…I’m Keegan, I don’t mean to be rude.”
I looked up as he slid his phone into his back pocket.
“Fay,” I said as he grinned. His eyes lingered on mine for a moment and then Gemma stepped up and smiled at me. She raised an eyebrow, with two fresh drinks in her hands.
“Well, hello,” She said as Keegan turned and smiled at her.
“Hi, Keegan,” he said.
Gemma shook her head ‘no’. She motioned towards herself. “Gemma.”
He rubbed his neck and laughed. “No, I mean… I am Keegan.”
“Oh,” she said, as she added in her flirty laugh, which told me he was as cute as I thought that he was. Gemma and I seem to have the same taste in men.
“You are welcome to stick around, Fay was just about to tell me about her sex book.” I rolled my eyes and leaned back in the booth.
“Oh?” he said as he looked at me and I sighed. God Damn it Gemma.
I fidgeted with hands under the table. “It’s just a hobby, a thing, it’s nothing, really.”
Keegan sat down across from me and slid over as Gemma pushed her way next to him. She eyed him as she took a sip of her Latte. I reached up and fingered at my chilled frap on the table before me. I had a hard time looking at him, he had the prettiest blue eyes and flashes of my mystery lover in the book and Keegan started to blur in my mind. I cleared my throat and sucked it up. I was never this nervous about shit in my life, so I just dove in.
“Sex is a hobby?” he asked, as he grinned. Gemma smiled and winked at me. She liked him, too much…too fast, as always with her.
I didn’t hesitate to answer him. “I guess it could be, to some people I mean.”
He leaned forward and interlocked his fingers on the table. “So, it’s about what then?” His eyes remained locked onto mine.
I took a long drink through my straw, I blinked with one eye as a brain freeze came on. I am sure I look overtly attractive.
“Well,” I set my drink down and coughed. I touched my forehead and he laughed again. I leaned back and tapped my fingers on the table.
“It is about a girl who responds to an online ad, all it says is Surrender, on the ad I mean, and she goes to the link and…well, it is a sex club for people who want to have sex with other people they do not know.”
“Fay! Wow!” Gemma said as she leaned back and laughed at me. I looked at her and then back to Keegan, who was not laughing. In fact, his expression was one of interest.
“Go on.”
I swallowed hard and then continued on, not wanting to give it all away, but happy someone cared to ask me about it with a certain degree of seriousness.
“Well, she shows up on the top of a building with a card she received in the mail.”
“Like a business card?” he asked me and I nodded.
“Yeah, a black one with one number on it.”
“That is weird.” Gemma said and I looked at her as one of my eyebrows rose, my expression stern, “It’s meant to be a mystery.”
She shook her head and glanced at Keegan. “It’s freaky, I mean who looks for stuff like that online?”
I looked down, a little bit embarrassed about it.
“People who want more.” Keegan said with a soothing tone in his voice. I looked up at him. His eyes still
